Dr. Rajen Naidoo

Dr. Rajendran (Rajen) Naidoo passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 62. He is survived by his Wife, Josee Brousseau, twin daughters, Saskia and Sophie, Marianne Babwah, son-in-law Navid Babwah, brother Dr. Pat Naidoo, sister Dayan Naidoo, brother-in-law Dr. Vinay Panday, and nephews Kshethra, Anveshana and Najen. Rajen was a loving, caring, giving, sweet man who would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. He loved traveling, entertaining, eating and most importantly his wine. He has lived life based on love for all of human and animal kind and embraced all with equality. He has given himself to the service of society and medicine. Even deeper is his love for his family, his wife Josee and his 3 daughters. He will be mourned by many friends, colleagues, patients, students, and others whose lives he touched. Rajen accomplished more during his lifetime than most very successful people one has met. He was born in Durban, South Africa. His education included the University of Durban-Westville, Durban in South Africa where he received his B. Eng., Electrical Engineering, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania where he was a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering, and Yale University School of Medicine where he received his medical degree. Prior to his post-secondary education, he was in Active combat service in the Military of the African National Congress of South Africa, Umkhonto We Sizwe. Transfer appointment to United Nations, ANC representative Mission. Retired Commissioned Officer: Major, Post-incorporation into the South African Defense Forces. He served proudly as personal Security Detail to Mr Nelson Mandela and Mr Chris Hani. He spent his professional career as an Orthopedic Surgeon and Stem Cell Research Scientist, he was a Clinical and scientific advisor to several companies and academic institutions internationally and lecturer on clinical cellular therapy and research. He was invited to deliver lectures and Grand Rounds in many countries across the Globe and Medical Institutions including the Brigham Hospital of the Harvard University School of Medicine; Wuhan, PRC; Adventist Medical School in Manila, Philippines. His biggest passion was the Foundations that he established, primarily involved with leading research work developing stem cell therapy. Several of the foundations that he established were The International Medical Mission Foundation; Cell Bio Research Inc.; and Challenge Mentorship Program Inc. These foundations included research projects involved in the Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy in Plantar Fasciitis; Investigation of the Antineoplastic Activity of the diarylsulfonylurea compounds and their mechanisms of action; the study of factors influencing the delivery of primary health care at St. Wendolyns squatter community in South Africa; Stem Cells Clinical Applications: Psoriatic Arthritis – a Case Study World Journal of Stem Cells; and COVID-19 Case Study of patients treated with Cord Blood Stem cells. His professional history included Attending Orthopedic Surgeon for National Orthopedics, Palms West Hospital (where he met his amazing loving sweet wife and soulmate, Josee), Palms West Surgery Center, JFK Medical Center, North Shore Medical Group of Mt Sinai Medical School and Huntington Hospital; Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; Chief of Trauma for Jacobi Medical Center; Chief Resident Orthopedic Surgery; and Resident Physician in Orthopedic Surgery and General Surgery for Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was recipient of numerous awards throughout his lifetime: Academic SACHED Trust, Durban, South Africa, Academic Scholarship.
