Miriam Hazel Henry

Our beloved mother, Miriam Hazel Henry was born on Feb 22, 1931 to parents, George and Lillian Baggan in Jamaica, West Indies and was of Indian descent. She passed away on July 26, 2018 at the age of 87, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Miriam married Bertram Henry and later migrated to the USA. She had 3 siblings - Vervita, Sonny and Loretta. She also had several life-sisters (Ms. Beryl, Ms. Rita, Ms. Allen and Ms. Bansie) all of whom she was thankful to for their love and help thru her life’s journey. She deeply loved and was very proud of her 5 children – Carlton (Val), Michael, Carol, Sharon and Yvonne. And she greatly enjoyed and loved her 13 grandchildren - Crystal, Kate, Nicholas, Anton, Aaron, Andrew, Danielle, Maghan, Collin, Rachael, Bryon, Matthew and Joshua - along with 7 great-grandchildren! She also had many nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones - many of whom could not be here today, but their love and prayers are with us. Mom was also a Christian Believer and attended the Church Of God in Brooklyn, NY. Our Mom, Miriam was only about 4ft 10ins in stature – but she was 10 feet tall in love for her children, family, friends and the Lord. She devoted her life to working so very hard to provide for her family, and most days could barely make ends meet – but she had the great principle of never owning a credit card or owing money. Like most of us, her life had many challenges since childhood, up to her retired years ending with illness - but Mom remained faithfully trusting in God thru it all. She had a sweet, gentle spirit and an unshakable faith in God – always thanking Him for taking her thru each challenge with His Love, Grace and Blessings. For all that our Mom had done and accomplished, the most important thing to know about her, is that she was a firm Believer in Christ as her Savior. And she knew and really lived out the Bible verse of putting others before one’s self (Philp 2:3-4). She has also lived with great integrity and has taught us by her example to be good, loving and kind. It is common today where people often say, “I love you” just as a greeting without much meaning – but our Mom lived out her love in action. Especially thru the great sacrificing of her own needs, to ensure that her children had what they needed – that is a true expression of love. She was kind and always thoughtful to those in need, and she enjoyed serving and donating to her local church. Our Mom really loved making Sunday dinner for us to gather as a family – and she was a very good cook! The grandkids shared their fond memories of visiting grandma in remembering how she would have their favorite foods and desserts, tell them funny stories with her little chuckles, and how she would always sneak pocket money into each of their hands. Mom’s pleasures in life were simple: she took great delight in spending time with her family, she loved feeding the birds and squirrels, she loved to garden, and she especially loved to listen and sing Hymns all day. They say it takes a village to raise a child - and it was with the help of her many sisters that she has brought up her children. And like her sister (the late Beryl Green who was our loving second mother), Mom was a true Proverbs 31 Woman - we know they will dance together in the new Paradise. We are forever grateful for our Mom’s legacy of true love, her great sacrifices, her good character of integrity, her Godly examples, and for the many prayers she has stored up in heaven for us all. There is no greater legacy that one can leave to their children, than the teaching of God’s love and His gift of eternal life for those who choose to walk with Him. To Mama: “You were the best Mom we could have ever asked for, and we’re so proud of who you are and all you’ve done. The world would not have been the same without your contribution of life and love - and we hope to follow in your great example of love and faith. We thank God for you and will greatly miss having you here with us. But we rejoice knowing that you are now in God’s perfect rest – awaiting the day of the Resurrection, when God will sound the trumpet and the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thes 4:16)". So from all of us, we wish you a peaceful rest until we meet again in heaven. WE LOVE YOU DEARLY, AND WILL MISS YOU DEEPLY.
