David Chola Persaud

In Loving Memory of Chola Persaud (David) It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Chola Persaud, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on February 14, 2025. Born in Esau and Jacob, Mahaicony Creek, Guyana, on July 4, 1945, to Basdeo and Bhagmania Maraj, Chola lost his mother at the tender age of four. He was raised by Chan, who lovingly showed him the true meaning of a mother's love. He grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving family—seven brothers and six sisters. As the youngest of seven brothers, he was a cherished and spoiled child. Chola's commitment to learning led him to complete his General Certificate of Examination (GCE – 5 Subjects) from Cambridge University, London, through self-study. He continued his education at Cyril Potters Teachers Training College. In September 1965, he met the love of his life at Augsburg Lutheran School in Burma, Mahaicony, marrying Leila on March 12, 1967. He dedicated seventeen years to shaping the lives of countless students as an educator in Guyana, leaving a lasting impact on the profession he held dear. A hardworking and devoted family man, Chola always ensured his family had everything they needed to thrive. He instilled in them the values of faith, love, and understanding. His perseverance and respect were evident not only within his home but also throughout his community. Seeking a better life for his family, he immigrated to the United States in July 1980. He began his career sweeping floors, ultimately rising to become an Assistant VP and later a Quality Control Engineer at Yula Corporation in Bronx, NY, where he enjoyed a successful 25-year career before retiring. In 2001, he made the decision to move to Lake Worth, Florida. The following year, this became a reality. He dedicated his retirement years to his seven grandchildren, serving as their chauffeur, babysitter, teacher, cheerleader, and playmate—providing them with everything a child needs to grow. Chola had a strong commitment to community service. A devoted Hindu, he was known for his unwavering faith and dedication to his family and community. He was a founding member and devotee of the Palm Beach Hindu Mandir, Loxahatchee, Florida, since its inception in 2009, actively participating in weekly worship and all events; Holi and Diwali were his favorites. He was an exceptional storyteller, captivating those around him with his life stories, sharing laughter and wisdom with family and friends. His hobbies included gardening, writing poetry, and dancing. Chola is survived by his loving wife, Leila; children Sabita, Nalinie, and Sushiela; sons-in-law Vishnu and Bill; grandchildren Amit, Suvanie, Chait, Vikash, Sandhya, Gajendra, and Umesh; brother Vishnu; and sisters Gyan and Pulla. He will be deeply missed by his family and all whose lives he touched with his unwavering love and support. Though his physical presence may be gone, the warmth of his spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
