John F. Schmidt

John Francis Schmidt, 72, of Wellington, Florida, passed away, with his family by his side, after a sudden illness, on November 2, 2018, in Palms West Hospital, Loxahatchee, FL. He is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior. He was born on May 20, 1946, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Joseph Frederick Schmidt and Jeanne T. Featherstone-Schmidt, who preceded him in death. He graduated Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1964 and Florida State University, in 1969, with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He began working at Island Creek Coal Company, Keene Mountain, VA in 1971 in a managerial position and worked at many other coal companies throughout the United States and Germany before retiring from the industry and settling in Wellington, Florida. He began working, alongside his brother, at Cornerstone Realty, Palm Beach, FL., in real estate and property management. He served as a Director for the Realtors Commercial Alliance, of the Palm Beaches for many years and as President in 2012. He accepted the Lord, as his personal Savior in 1971 and was a member of Boca Raton Bible Chapel and an avid volunteer in many ministries throughout his lifetime, most recently with the Keryx Prison Ministry, Riviera, FL. John was passionate about his relationship with God and put the Lord first in his life, in keeping with the commandment, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you!” –Matthew 6:33 His life could be summed up in one of his favorite bible verse, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife, Peggy Ann Davis-Schmidt with whom he celebrated 51 years of loving marriage. Also, survived by his Son, John M. Schmidt (Lailanie); North Ridgeville, OH; Daughter, Gina Hollingworth, Waynesburg, PA, and Son; Geoff Schmidt (Kristen), Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren: Hannah E. Hollingworth, Jacob P. Hollingworth, Joseph F. C. Schmidt and Alexandra I. Schmidt. Brothers, Frederick J Schmidt (Sherry), Lake Worth, FL; Joseph A. Schmidt (Vicki) Wellington, FL,: and Francis J. Schmidt (Judy) Guatemala. And many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A celebration of John’s life will be held at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Parkway, Royal Palm Beach, FL. 33407, this Wednesday, November 7, 2018, between 4 PM -6 PM, Funeral immediately following.
