William “Bill” Christe Sanis of Greenacre passed away on March 11 at the age of 78. The eldest son of the late Christe Sanis and Dorothy (Long) Sanis, Bill grew up in Astoria, Queens, where he attended St. Francis Preparatory School.
Following high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After his military service, he went on to enjoy a long career as a Broadcast Engineer, working with NBC, ABC, and the Harris Corporation, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Although he enjoyed his career in television, his true passion was tennis. A dedicated tennis instructor for over 50 years, he inspired and mentored countless students throughout the years, including at Cardinal Newman High School and Love Serving Autism. Off the court, Bill was a lifelong animal lover and rescued dozens of cats in his life.
He is survived by his brother, Christe Sanis (Laura) of New York City; his sister, Helene McLean of Delray Beach, Florida; his nephew, Michael McLean (Colleen) of Malden, Massachusetts; and loving cousin Joan Mangieri of Lindenhurst, New York.
