William "Buzzie, Billy, Spider, Bill" Thomas Biossat was known as many things to many people. First, he was a son born on October 22, 1946, to Dan Leeper Biossat and Dorothy June Zeim Biossat, in a tiny town in Lima, Peru. After his birth, the family quickly relocated to South Miami where he spent his entire childhood in a house built by his father's own two hands. Then William became a big brother to Mary Jane Biossat. To her, he was the most protective big brother ever. William was known to his closest family members as Buzzie. A nickname given to him because his father, a pilot, used to "buzz" by the control tower in his plane to say hi when he and his mother would come to see him fly. He was a beloved son, and brother, and those closest to him knew he was quite the mama's boy. Miami in the 50's was an idyllic time perfect for young kids. William was known to his childhood friends as Billy. He and his best friends grew up exploring the unpopulated area of South Miami, spending their days fishing, snorkeling, boating/sailing, spear fishing, and hunting. Billy and Mary Jane also spent their summers in New Jersey visiting their Nana and Grandpa, aunts and uncles, and cousins, Sharon, and Deborah. Billy's childhood was full of wild adventures and a life of exploration. He was a good catholic boy who loved the outdoors. Billy eventually went on to attend St. Leo College in 1969, where he became known as Spider to his fraternity brothers. He got that name because he was such a scrawny fella his freshman year. Spider and his brothers forged life-long relationships, carrying out pranks and silly antics throughout college. Spider graduated from St. Leo college with a bachelor's degree in Biology. He was a wild and crazy friend. After graduating college, he met the love of his life, Darlos Ann Blundell. The minute Spider laid eyes on Darlos from across the bar at Big Daddy's, he was hooked. The more time they spent together the more he knew she was the only one for him. She wasn't a typical girl. They shared many of the same interests such as camping, fishing, boating, and he loved her for that. They married October 19, 1973. The two would go on to have many great adventures together. He was a soulmate, best friend, and husband for 48 years. William had a notable career in state and federal law enforcement. After college, he was hired as a state law enforcement officer with the Florida Marine Patrol. To his colleagues he was known as Bill. His primary responsibility from 1970 to 1975 was to enforce all marine related violations throughout the state of Florida. In addition, Bill was on Florida's first underwater dive and recovery team. In 1975, he was promoted to the position of Narcotics Officer at the Florida Marine Patrol's Headquarters in Tallahassee. Bill was assigned to work undercover drug investigations where he assisted local law enforcement throughout the state of Florida. His deep undercover investigations led him to begin working major cases with the Drug Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.). He was brave and fearless. Bill then became a doting father to children, Danisha, Jenna, and William "Zach." To them he was Dad, Daddy, and Pop. Although, he was a busy undercover officer he always made time to attend his children's dance recitals, soccer, softball, and football games. He continued the adventures he had with Darlos and took his children camping. He taught his kids to pitch a tent, fish, whittle wood with a pocketknife, build a fire and cook food on it, and flatten pennies on a train track. They also spent many weekends exploring oceans and lakes on his father's boat. He always tried to instill life lessons in his kids just as his father did with him. He was a father and teacher. Bill was a hard-worker and his successes at the Florida Marine Patrol then led him to a position with the D.E.A. from 1980 to 1984, where he was stationed in West Palm Beach, Florida. Due to Bill's vast knowledge of undercover operations and the relationship he cultivated in the narcotic's world, Bill was hired by D.E.A. as a Special Agent, where he continued his distinguished career as an undercover agent. He was partner and courageous. After an exponential number of federal operations, arrests, and indictments under his badge with the D.E.A., in 1984, Bill was hired by the U.S. Customs Office of Enforcement as the Resident Agent in Charge of Ft. Pierce and West Palm Beach, FL. His primary responsibility was overseeing marine interdiction of drug smuggling vessels coming into the Florida coast. Bill supervised 35 agents, who operated 12 drug interceptor vessels. In 1993, Bill was transferred to Florida's Ft. Lauderdale office where he supervised 12 marine interdiction officers and 24 special agents. All U.S. Customs laws were enforced at this Resident Office including but not limited to, drug interdiction, money laundering, child pornography, and fraud investigations. He was a leader and bold. Bill retired from the U.S. Customs Office in 2001, as a Resident Agent in Charge after 31 years of service to the state and federal government. Throughout his career he amassed numerous awards, recognitions, and commendations and his humble response was always the same, "Just doing my job." During his retirement party, he was highly recognized by the U.S. Attorney's Office, members of the D.E.A., Florida Marine Patrol, U.S. Customs, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Broward County Sheriff's Office, and even Janet Reno in the U.S. Attorney General's Office. He was respected and admired. William Biossat dedicated his life to serving others at a great risk to his own but as he would say, his greatest achievement has been being married to his wife Darlos for over 48 years, raising his three children, Danisha, Jenna, and Zach, and watching his six grandchildren grow up. Nothing made him happier than his grandkids Emerson, Camden, Channing, Cazz, Kayley, and Corbin running into his arms and giving them big bear hugs telling them he was going to squeeze their guts out. To them, he was Grandpa and PooPaw. To them and the rest of his family he was EVERYTHING. William "Buzzie, Billy, Spider, Bill" Biossat, passed away December 14, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Godspeed our Hero.
