Wilburn Dwight Barksdale

Dwight was born in Foley, Florida on November 6th, 1930, to Palmer Dale & Lorene Barksdale. Dwight was raised in Daytona Beach, Florida where he later graduated high school. At the age of 19 he joined the United States Air Force and served 3.5 years before being honorably discharged as he had to return home to take care of his mother. Shortly thereafter, Dwight moved to the West Palm Beach area where he was introduced to the love of his life, Carol LaPlant. They married in January 1956 and enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage before the passing of Carol in December 2021. Dwight Is survived by his 3 children, Dwight David (Katherine) of Marianna, Florida; Darlene (Daniel) of Royal Palm Beach; Laurie (Jim) of Jupiter and Dorthy Norman, his sister of Ormand Beach. Dwight was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Brandy (Jessica), Scott, Aaron (Sabrina), Marvin & Sabrina; and 3 great grandchildren, Krista, Niko and Roselyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Visitation and Memorial Service will be held on May 22, 2024, at 10:00 am at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach. Immediately following, we will proceed in procession to the South Florida Veterans National Cemetery for a short graveside service beginning promptly at 12:30.
