Walter Harned III, affectionately known as "Baby Cakes," passed away suddenly on June 16, 2026, at the age of 62. Born in Oyster Bay, New York, Walter made South Florida his home, spending most of his life in Palm Beach County, where he became a beloved figure to all who knew him.

Walter proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years before dedicating another 25 years to his career as a lineman with AT&T, from which he had recently retired. His life was one of service — to his country, his community, and the people he loved.

In his personal life, Walter was a man of deep passions. He was an avid reader, a lover of music and art, and a kitchen lover who delighted in feeding the people around him. He was also an enthusiastic Warhammer player, a hobby that brought him great joy and wonderful moments.

Walter was a gentle and pure soul with a heart of gold that touched more lives than he ever knew. He was a devoted husband, a loving son, a cherished brother, and a proud uncle to his niece and nephews, grandniece and grandnephews.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria; his parents, Walter Jr. and Barbara; his siblings Carolynne, Michael, Barbarita, and Kathryn; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Walter was, simply put, a great human being. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A funeral mass will take place at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 10:30 AM.
