Violet Amanda Morris

April 22, 1916 — July 18, 2019

Violet Amanda Morris was born to Alice Taylor on April 22, 1916 in Sligoville a parish in St. Catherine, Jamaica. Violet lived to be a centenarian (103 years), as did her mother Alice (circa 105 years). Violet migrated to Connecticut in 1968, where she eventually retired from Greenwich Hospital. Violet known to most as "Mum" was one of six children. She is predeceased by five of her siblings and mother. "Aunt May" is the last of the six children. Mum was a member of Pentecostal Apostolic Faith of Bridgeport for approximately fifty years where she participated in many activities. Mum was an excellent cook and truly enjoyed eating the cuisine of her native Jamaica. Some of her favorite foods were oxtail, ackee, and breadfruit. She also received a tremendous amount of pleasure in listening to her "church music." Although, instruments were not a part of the worship experience at her church home she made a joyful noise with her voice and hands. She impressed upon her grandchildren the importance of showing respect to adults, doing well in school, having a job and serving God. Violet is survived by her son-in-law Barrington Palmer; three children: Ivy Banton of Hackensack; Adolphus Barnes of Kingston; and Silburn Bailey of Stamford. She is also survived by her sister Alberta "May" Morgan; nine grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Violet was predeceased by her loving daughter Marjorie Palmer in 2016.
