Vernice Delia Glaves, educator and minister of the Gospel, was an achiever throughout her life, and will be remembered with love long after her passing. Vernice was born on August 26, 1929 and passed away on January 1, 2023 after a courageous battle with dementia. She died with loved ones present and her memory will be honored by those who strive to follow her example of achievement. Vernice DePass was raised in a little town in Jamaica, Devon, and went to teacher's college. She married Aston Glaves and had two children, Howard and Sandra. Vernice came to America and became a pre-school teacher and eventually became the Director of that Day Care Center. During this time, she went back to college and got her Bachelor's Degree and a Master's in Education. She also co-founded Bethlehem Missionary Church with others. Vernice moved on to become the Director of the NAACP Day Care Center in Jamaica, Queens, New York and then became a Day Care Consultant to the City of New York. Upon retiring, Vernice Glaves devotedly took care of her granddaughters, Christina and Melissa, after school for several years until they could advocate for themselves. She got another Master's and Doctorate in Theology. At the age of 70 years old, Rev. Dr. Vernice Glaves began a third career. She was a minister but decided to become a missionary. Dr. Glaves went on many missionary trips in the Black Diaspora and was loved by many, as illustrated by the letters in her possession that she received. She also wrote many books, most of which are unpublished. Vernice traveled for leisure all over the world. Somehow, she also managed to teach herself computer network administration so that she could help her grandson get his certification, a feat that many would not even have tried. Vernice Delia Glaves is survived by her daughter, Sandra Denise Glaves-Morgan, son-in-law, Ishmael Morgan, daughter-in-law, Maria Glaves, grandchildren, Jonathan, Danielle, Anayancy, Christina and Melissa, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and brother, Rupert DePass, and his wife, Marsyl, and brother-in-law, Harold Glave.
