WHITE, VERA M. On Friday, February 14, 2014, Vera M. White, our loving, kind, compassionate and talented Aunt passed away in Wellington, Florida. Vera was born in Pisgah, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, W.I., the sixth child of Jane and William McDonald. She attended Pisgah Elementary School and continued her education in Brighton, Westmoreland, Jamaica where she earned a teacher's diploma and taught for seven years in Seaford Town Catholic School, Westmoreland. In 1955 she immigrated to Canada, and then to New York, where she pursued her education in business and met Warren White. They were married in 1961. Vera retired from the New York Board of education in 1990 and relocated to Sarasota, Florida. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for nine and a half years and was also a dedicated volunteer for Family Heritage House Museum, located at Manatee Community College Campus in Bradenton, Florida. Vera was also a charter member for the Association for the study of African American Life and History (ASALAH) where she volunteered as a secretary. She will be greatly missed. Vera's memory will be cherished by her brother Edgar McDonald, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
