On Tuesday July 15, 2025, Van Sanders passed away surrounded by his family and his devoted wife of 28 years, Mrs. Delores Sanders. Van accepted Christ at an early age in Saint Louis, Missouri under the fellowship of his Pastor. In 2021 Van was baptized again at Fellowship Church in Boynton, Florida, reaffirming his commitment alongside his son, Elijah Sanders. They both wore shirts with the print of, "I decided to Follow Jesus." Van graduated high school in 1969 and worked various jobs before joining the U.S. Navy on February 19, 1974. He served until January 20, 1976, at which time he received an honorable discharge. After six years working as an electrical engineer, Van reenlisted in the U.S. Navy from March 3, 1982, to March 31, 2000. Van was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Expert Pistol Shot, Rifleman Medals, Good Conduct award, a Nations Defense Service Medals, the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Badge, a Sea Service Deployment Medals, and several other commendations. After receiving an Honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he continued to work as an electrical engineer for ten years before retiring.
