Uriah Belle

September 20, 1930 — August 25, 2014

Uriah Belle was born on September 20, 1930 in Mount Airy, Westmorland, Jamaica W.I. to the late Arthur and Gladys Belle. He was predeceased by his sisters Ruby, Dorothy, Myrtle, and Pernell, and his only brother Clifton. His only living sibling is Winifred who resides in England. Uriah was an accomplished Master Carpenter by trade who prided himself by creating anything he could dream up. When he was a young man Uriah left Jamaica to seek a better life in Manchester, England. It was while residing in Manchester that he met the love of his life Prudel. In the early 70's Uriah and Prudel migrated to America to chase the 'American Dream'. Uriah resided in Queens Village, N.Y. until his retirement in 1994. Although Uriah believed he was living a complete and fulfilled life while residing in New York, once he retired and moved to Royal Palm Beach, Florida, he quickly realized life had only just begun. Uriah was a people person who loved to be surrounded by family and friends alike. In life he lived by the Jamaican saying "One hand can't clap" and helped as many people as he could. One of his greatest strengths was serving as catalyst in bringing people together. If he could not directly help, he knew of someone who could and he would aide in bridging the gap. Uriah was an active and dedicated member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church and volunteered for a variety of Church events and projects. He was also an active member of the Caribbean Association For Community Involvement and served on a variety of committees. Throughout Uriah's lifetime he traveled the world but his favorite past time of all was a good game of Dominoes. As the Patriarch of the family he will be sorely missed by many. He leaves to mourn his wife Prudel, five children; Robin, Barry, Ricky, Maxie, Marcia and their spouses; three "he's like a son to me"; Gregory, Granville, and Paul; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five brother-in-laws; Alvin, Scott, Peter, Lloyd, and George; one sister-in-law Gwen; a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and too many close friends to count.
