Thomas Edward Akins III (Tom), 78, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on July 3, 1945 in Oakland, Nebraska. At a young age, Tom and his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Upon graduation from Overlea High School in 1963, Tom joined the United States Airforce where he was stationed in Germany. Tom worked for and was a part owner of the family business, Poplar Place Hardware in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2009, Tom and his wife, JoAnn, retired to Royal Palm Beach, Florida to be family. Tom was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis Mincsik, and his brother, Terry Lee Akins. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, JoAnn Akins nee Lazzaro; his mother, Eloise Lamae Mincsik nee Dahlgren of Wellington, Florida; his half-brother, Louis Todd Mincsik of Wellington, Florida; his son, Thomas E. Akins IV (Susan) of Selbyville, Delaware; his daughter, Tanya Lee Siskind nee Akins (Jeffrey) of Wellington, Florida; his grandchildren, Samantha, Jack, and Scarlett Siskind; his nephews, Brent Michael Akins (Jamie) and Brandon Lee Akins (Jennifer); one great-niece and three great-nephews. Tom had a passion for fishing, whether rock fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico or tarpon fishing in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. He also loved a good brew and had an extraordinary talent for making people laugh. He brought happiness to all who knew him. His family was his greatest treasure, and his knack for storytelling created moments of joy that will resonate through time. Tom was a dedicated husband, a loving family man, and a comic genius, who leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love that will stand as a testament to his lively spirit. May Tom find eternal peace surrounded by the echoes of his infectious laughter and the love he shared.
