Susan Irene Hetchler

March 19, 1948 — March 1, 2024

Our Lord called our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Susan Hetchler home on March 1 st , 2024. Born on March 19 th , 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arthur Slater and May Hermeling. As a child she spent time playing outside games with her many siblings, helping her mom, and she loved to listen to her dad's auctioneering voice. After her high school years, she attended beauty school. She met and married the love of her life, Duane, on May 31, 1972. They shared 50 years of making and creating memories as they raised their family. The family moved to Florida in 1979 where she started to watch children in her home. Once her own children started school, she started working in the school system where she spent many years as a Paraprofessional, supporting the teachers and the students in many ways. As she took care of many children, not just her own, she also was the pure example of a loving wife to her husband, Duane. She will be remembered for her kindness, willingness to help, and desire to support children. She would often be found spending many hours at school with many children around her. She was always willing to listen to them and, through her kindness, she would gently provide them with guidance and support. She was willing to help anyone with anything that they needed done. During retirement, she was often found returning to the school to volunteer, spending time with family and attending church events. Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, mother, father, stepfather (Art Johnson), brother (Robert Slater), Stepbrother (Chris Johnson), and nephew (Chad Slater). Her memories will be carried in the hearts of those she has left behind. Her four children: Michelle (John) Wood, Rebecca (Estel) Hundley, Scott (Christal) Hetchler, and John (Sharon) Kraft. Eleven Grandchildren: Courtney, Tyler, Caitlin (Jonathan), Cody, Hunter, Brooke, Heath, Carissa, Enjoli, Ryan and Tyler. Great Grandchild Mikey, Elliana, Amelia, Easton and Scarlett. Her loving siblings, Paul (Janet) later, Pat (Steve) Wemple, John (Shari) Slater, Ann Marie Crawford, Mary Jo Williamson, Dean (Judy) Johnson, Kurt (Linda) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. Along with many other family, friends and those that she touched through her years working with children. She will be missed by many, and will be a part of many lives, as she leaves behind many memories. Until we meet again, she will always be in our hearts and memories.
