Mrs. Sursatie Singh, 83, of Royal Palm Beach peacefully departed this world in the early morning hours of February 11th, 2024, surrounded by blessings, prayers and the loving embrace of her children. She was also lovingly known to many as "Esar" and "Sattie." She was born on January 13th, 1941 in Kitty Village, Georgetown, Guyana and attended Kitty Methodist School. She cherished many fond memories of her childhood days, including her daily walks to school and the close bond she shared with her siblings. She was proud of her birthplace throughout her life and was thrilled to tell those she met about Guyana. On July 13th, 1958, she married the "love of her life", Kamala Sharran "Kamal" Singh and relocated to her husband's village of Golden Fleece, West Coast Berbice. Although the rural village was quite a change from her birthplace, she was welcomed with open arms by her parents-in-law Bisal and Rampatie and her brothers-in-law, who affectionately nicknamed her "Baby." She quickly became known in her new hometown for her warmth and compassion, and her willingness to help others. She treasured her four children as precious blessings in her life, and in the 1970s, she and her husband endured many challenges and made many sacrifices to bring the American Dream of more opportunities to their children. They settled in Queens, New York, and she adapted to life in the United States with her characteristic grace, resilience and positivity, while continuing to support and nurture family, friends and neighbors. It brought her great joy to see her children flourishing and growing their own families. She insisted her sons- and daughters-in-law were her own "sons" and "daughters" and relished any opportunity to share time, wisdom and food with her grandchildren. Her eye for beauty and unmatched sense of style led her to a successful career in retail, and she quickly rose through the ranks of the purchasing department for several of New York's most iconic department stores such as Woolworth's and the famous 34th Street Macy's. A firm believer in the power of accessorizing, she believed life was always better with some sparkle and shine. She maintained her poise, independence and fortitude even in the depths of grief after losing her beloved husband in 2004. After relocating to Florida, she continued to be the pillar of strength for her family in his absence. Raised in the Hindu tradition, her life was filled with deep faith and devotion. She loved singing bhajans, conducting pujas and blessing others by assisting in ceremonies and weddings in any way she could. She was especially devoted to Bhagavan Shiva, Shree Hanumanji and Shree Rama and found both great meaning and great joy in prayer. Towards her final days, even as her voice faded to a whisper, she continued to sing the glories of her Bhagavan, and even as her hands became weak, she offered her pujas and reached out to touch his lotus feet. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kamala Sharran "Kamal" Singh, parents Daliph and Sumintra Singh, parents-in-law Bisal and Rampatie Singh, sister Rajkali "Moonie" Maraj, brothers-in-law Balram Maraj and Parmanand Bhanu, nephews Chetram and Deoram Maraj, brothers-in-law Ganese, Charran, David, Ganga, Satrohan, Beeram and Dabi Singh, and great-grandbaby Amari Knight.
