Sterling Conrad III

Sterling “Stu” Conrad III, 83, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and unconditional love. Born on May 21, 1943, at Glen Cove Hospital in Glen Cove, New York, Stu grew up in nearby Manhasset, the beloved son of Sterling Conrad Jr. and Jennie Conrad. From an early age, he developed the values that would define his life—hard work, humility, loyalty, and a deep commitment to helping others. On a beautiful day in 1967, Stu married the love of his life, Linda. Together they built a remarkable marriage that spanned nearly 59 years, rooted in unwavering love, friendship, laughter, and steadfast devotion. Through every chapter of life, they stood side by side, creating a home filled with warmth and raising a family that became Stu’s greatest pride and life’s greatest accomplishment. Their enduring love remains an inspiration to all who knew them. Stu dedicated his career to serving the Elmont community. He worked for the Elmont Union Free School District while answering another calling as a firefighter with the Elmont Fire Department. His leadership, dedication, and calm demeanor earned him the respect of his fellow firefighters, and he rose through the ranks to become Chief of the department. Following his years as Chief, Stu continued his service as the Fire District Supervisor, where he managed fire alarm operations, oversaw major equipment purchases, and helped ensure the department had the resources needed to protect the community. Whether responding to emergencies or guiding the department behind the scenes, Stu’s commitment never wavered. Public service was more than a profession—it was simply who he was. After retiring in 2004, Stu and Linda moved to Lake Worth, Florida, where they enjoyed the retirement they had earned. They cherished time with family, celebrated the growth of each new generation, and created countless memories together. Family was the heart of Stu’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Denise Niemczyk and her husband Leo Niemczyk, Tracy Katsoulakis, and Drew Conrad Sr; his ten cherished grandchildren, Crystal, Andrew, Ashley, Brittany, Emma, Brooke, Hailey, Kaitlynn, Paige, and Jackson; and his eight treasured great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Lynx, KarraRose, Paisley, Beau, Mack, Jakoby, and Rowan. Nothing brought Stu greater joy than seeing his family together. He was their steady presence, trusted advisor, quiet protector, and biggest supporter. Away from work, Stu found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who faithfully cheered for his team every season. He also enjoyed collecting die-cast fire trucks, carpentry and building intricate model kits, hobbies that reflected both his lifelong connection to the fire service and his patience and attention to detail. Stu will also be remembered for the friendships he cultivated over a lifetime. He was loyal, dependable, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His quiet strength spoke louder than words, and his actions consistently reflected the character of a man who believed in doing the right thing.Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Stu’s legacy lives on—in the family he loved beyond measure, in the firefighters and colleagues who served beside him, and in the countless lives touched by his kindness, leadership, and example. He leaves behind not only memories, but a standard of integrity, service, and love that will continue to inspire future generation.
