Sondra E. Lomax

August 7, 1937 — May 27, 2015

Sondra Lomax, legendary Wife, Mother, Nanny and loyal friend to so many, died with grace and dignity on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. She was 77. Born in Steubenville, Ohio on August 7, 1937, she was raised in Weirton, WV where there was seemingly an aunt and uncle on every block. Along with her sister Patricia, the inseparable twosome were more than a handful for their parents Bill and Mary Genevieve. A forever blonde counterpart to her sister's red mane, their lives took different but never distant paths and they always remained best friends. This belief in family informed her role as a mother, a fierce protector of her daughter Elisa and son Rob. No matter the distance, no matter the circumstances, she loved her children unconditionally - as they in turn have loved their children. It will be her greatest legacy. Every new addition to her family made her happy, but the happiest day of her life is when she met her husband and soulmate Bob. Both scarred from the trials of love, they found in each other everything they had been searching for - respect, loyalty and admiration. She was his "Sonny", he was her rock and together they lived life fully. It was in their backyard pool that Sondra held court, teaching seemingly half the children of Longwood, FL how to swim. To this day they can still hear echoes of "pull, kick, reach" as they paddled and pushed through the water. She trained with Navy SEALs and she swam with dolphins. That's just how she rolled. When Bob passed suddenly in 2008 her heart broke in two. A twilight renaissance in California provided a slight respite - a time to sort through a lifetime of memories- but it could only dull the ache. And when her beloved Elisa joined Bob in heaven, she began her final journey to reunite with them both. Sondra lives on through her son Rob; sister Patricia; grandkids Amy, Shea, Jessica, Alex and Conner; great grands Lauren, Andrew and Audrey; nephews Chuck and Jim; her besties Eileen and Donna; and her beloved rescue Barclay. Sondra (and Bob) will be reunited on Monday, June 2nd at 10am, Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL. Ever the stylish girl, flowers are encouraged and can be sent directly to the cemetery (no lilies please, she hated them). A true original, Sondra has left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her. Fierce, loyal and loving, her generosity of spirit is her forever gift to this world. 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bye.
