SCOTT HOAGLAND DeDi, SR. Age 72 of Wellington passed away Thursday, April 17th after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Scott was a manufacturers representative to the lighting and home furnishings industry for the last 34 years. He was a past president of the Florida Home Furnishings Representatives Association and was well known throughout the state after following in his father, Arthur L. DeDi's footsteps after retiring from the U.S. Navy. Scott retired from the U.S. Navy in 1974 as a Chief Petty Officer after serving for 22 years as an air traffic controller and working with Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica where he would spend six months of each year for 5 years. He was a member of the Byrd Station Society of Antarctica. Operation Deep Freeze was a vital collaboration between the National Science Foundation and Navy to carry out earth science studies and exploration. Scott received the Navy Achievement Medal, (5) Good Conduct Medals, The Antarctica Service Medal, A Meritorious Unit Commendation, and (2) National Defense Service Medals. Over his 22 year career, Scott spent several years at sea aboard the USS Randolph (CVS-15). His Naval career spanned the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Scott was originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Pompano Beach as a child. He attended and graduated from Pompano Beach High School in 1954 and co-wrote the schools' Alma Mater. Scott attended Jacksonville University and the University of Maryland. --- Scott was an avid golfer, enjoyed Trivial Pursuit with his family where he remains the family champion and a fervent crucibologist who was so sure of himself that he did each crossword in pen and never left one uncompleted. Scott is survived by his wife of 52 years, Corinne Joyce DeDi, their 5 children, Renee Savarese (Bud)- Royal Palm Beach, Laurie Shamehdi (Sadegh)-Tampa, Scott DeDi, Jr. (Cathy)-Royal Palm Beach, Skye DeDi (Laura) -Pittsburgh, and Dawn Bonadies of Wellington. Also by 12 grandchildren, Michael Aebi (Stephanie) -Tampa, Courtney DeDi- Ft. Lauderdale, Corinne and Carissa Shamehdi -Tampa, Anthony DeDi- Royal Palm Beach, Austin DeDi- North Carolina, Amanda DeDi- Royal Palm Beach., Ace Savarese -Royal Palm Beach, Nikolas and Alexandra Bonadies -Wellington, Christian and Michael DeDi -Pittsburgh and 2 great-grandchildren, Olivia and Zachary Aebi of Tampa and his stepmother, Jean DeDi of Madiera Beach, FL. A visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon ? 1:00P.M. with a Funeral Service at 1:00P.M. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Palms West Funeral Home. Internment will follow at South Florida VA National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fl. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Palm Beach County and the staff at the Jay Robert Lauer Hospice Center at JFK Hospital for the incredible care given in this time of great sadness and asks that donations be made in his name to Hospice of Palm Beach County or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
