A small family service will be held prior to that at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. Roy is survived by his wife Annette; his children Neil, Andrew, Caroline, Anna, Edward, step-sons Marcel and Paul, and daughter-in-law Rachael; his grandchildren Saturna, Simon, Julia, Jonathan, Maegan, Daevian, Jillian, Isaiah, Hanley, Oliver and Avery; his great-grandchildren Brodie, Alina, Josiah, Genesis and Isaac; and his first wife Barbara. Born in Wimbledon, England on May 10, 1934, Roy grew up during World War II. After high school he graduated from both the AA School of Architecture and University College in London. He married Barbara Gallie, his first wife, and together they emigrated to Jamaica in 1963. Roy worked for the Jamaica Town Planning Department, and after fulfilling his contract with the Jamaican government, went into private architectural practice. His time in Jamaica was rich and varied with wonderful experiences such as sports broadcasting, acting in theatrical productions, and racehorse ownership, along with his architectural work. While in Jamaica he met and married his second wife, Annette Murdock. It was at this time in Jamaica that he began his lifelong love for the game of golf. This love would later blossom into a renowned career in golf course design. In 1976, Roy and his family moved to Florida where he obtained his contractor's license and went into private practice once again. Showing himself to be a true pioneer, Roy designed a community now known as Counterpoint Estates in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He built the first pod of 110 homes that had solar water heating, something very progressive in 1978. After that project, he began his successful career designing golf courses until his untimely passing. Roy was also well-known as an expert on Landfill Reclamation courses, where closed landfills are reused into golf courses. He referred to this as the "ultimate in recycling," as a barren, unused piece of land could be transformed into an amazing and beautiful profitable asset. Roy's courses are well known in Palm Beach County and have proven to be a great success for the Palm Beach County Parks Department. These courses include Okeeheelee Golf Course, Osprey Point, Park Ridge, and Palm Beach Gardens Municipal. In addition to his presence in Palm Beach, Roy also designed successful courses around the United States and the world. Notable courses include Wildcat Golf Course, Panther Trail, Minisceongo, Tanna Farms, Skyway Golf Course, New Jersey National, Millcreek Golf Club, The Refuge, Safehaven, Carenage Bay Golf Course, Memphis National and Penderbrooke Golf Course. While Roy will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues, his legacy lives on, and his many contributions are sure to be enjoyed by countless people for generations to come.
