Ronald Lee Qualls, age 71, of Leesburg, Florida. It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the death of an amazing member of our family, and best friend. Ronald L. Qualls has died on March 13, 2017. He has gone home to be with the Lord. He was with loved ones when he passed. Born September 15, 1945, he was preceded in death by father, Elmer Qualls, mother Rosemary Qualls, and sister, Brenda Robert. Survived by: Wife, Mary Morris of Leesburg, Florida. Son Lee Qualls of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Daughters, Veronica Law (Husband Benjamin) of Colony, Texas; Angelina Pounds (Husband Brian) of Davison, Michigan; Ramona Richardson (Husband Mark) of Palm Springs, Florida; Rosemary Evans of Columbiaville, Michigan and Melissa Qualls (Husband Michael) of Otisville, Michigan; Brothers, Bruce Qualls of West Palm Beach, Florida, Denny Qualls (Wife Georgena) of Lapeer, Michigan and Phillip Qualls (Wife Paula) of Chesaning, Michigan; Sisters, Karen Christensen (Husband Harry) of Burton, Michigan, and Rhonda Schumacher (Husband Mark) of Alba, Michigan; 19 Grandchildren, 8, Great Grandchildren, There are no words that can describe how greatly you will be missed. Ronald was one of the most amazing people. He was our light, our inspiration and our hero. He served our country, and continued to serve mankind with his accomplishments and achievements. Ronald graduated from Grand Blanc High School, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, in 1964. In 9th Grade he pitched a one hitter against Southwestern High School. He was scouted by the Detroit Tigers because he was a left handed pitcher. He also played football and broke his leg in three places on the goal post. He tried to enlist in the Marines but was denied because of his leg. So, determined and wanting to serve his country, he volunteered for the U.S. Army and served from 1966-1972. He served 2 years active duty from 1966-1968. Ronald completed his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas/9th Division, where he was the acting Platoon Sergeant. He was responsible for 20-25 men. Later, the 9th Division shipped out to Vietnam from San Francisco on the "U.S.N.S. Geiger". He landed at "Port Vung-Tau 3 Corp". He convoyed to a base called "Bear Cat", and the 3 Corp was transferred from the 9th Division to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade at "Tay-Ninh" in the Iron Triangle. The entire 196th Brigade was transferred to I-Corp at "Chu-Lai" which was then their new base camp. They worked north to "Tam-Ky", then north to "Tra-Bong". (3/82 Battalion Artillery). He was responsible for fire direction control, as the FDC Coordinator. In February, 1968, Ronald was stationed at "Fort Sill" in Oklahoma and was reassigned into Active Reserve. Ronald was an E-4/Spec. 4TH Class. He received the following medals: GOOD CONDUCT NATIONAL DEFENSE VIETNAM SERVICE W/ BRONZE STAR VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL W/DEV-60 PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL A CITATION OF VALOR CIVIL ACTION RIBBON and VIRTUE MEDAL OF HONOR In 1969 Ronald graduated from the Flint Police Academy, and was a Flint Police officer. He also attended Mott College where he received certifications in Automotive. He continued his education at the University of Michigan in Flint, Michigan for Business management. He continued his studies at Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth, Florida and obtained certifications in chemistry, waste and water technology, and earned his license in water treatment. He was employed with Palm Beach County at the Department of Water Utilities as the "Head systems operator", where he spent some time as the Vice-President of the CWA Employee Union. He was commander of the VFW in Riviera Beach, Florida from 1981-1982 and from 1984-1985. He was the VFW District commander of Palm Beach County from 1989-1990. He was the VFW's State of Florida's Voice of Democracy Chairman from 1991-1992 and he was the President of the VVA/Chapter 25 of America from 2006-2014. Finally, from 2010-2014, Ronald was the HOA President of Norwich Condominiums in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ronald's claim to fame was that he always told the truth no matter what, he followed the laws, he never received public assistance, and he placed all of his faith in God, and has always been a self made man. He has given all of us, some very big shoes to try and fill.
