Rod Loney was born on the island of Trinidad on June 11, 1952. He was the first of five children born to Roderick and Sylvia Loney. His first six years were spent in Trinidad where he received his foundational education. He joined his parents in US when they were students at Columbia University in NYC. He attended Horace Mann School for gifted children, a Columbia University Teacher's College prep school. He graduated from Bronx HS of Science and entered Bowdoin College in Maine as a Fine Arts major. He graduated with a terminal Master's Degree in Fine Arts from City University New York (CUNY). He completed all of the coursework for his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center. He also received a full scholarship to attend Stanford University Law School in California. While in HS, he also attended the Henry School of Music in Manhattan for his giftedness in the tenor saxophone. He was an all-around athlete and star sprinter in Bowdoin College in Maine, excelling in the 100 and 220 yard dash. He also was a gifted writer, winning an all-city NY essay contest at 13, accepting the award from Mayor Lindsey. He had a gift for memorization, placing first in the Southern Baptist Convention Memory verse contest, learning all 100 verses verbatim at 12 years of age. He was also an outstanding singer, modeling his voice after Nat King Cole's. From high school he had a business mind which pulled him away from the use of his academic training in any professional capacity. After working for British Airways for a number of years he followed his desire for independent business and joined Amway for whom he worked for over 25 years, serving to increase their brand and name worldwide. On Tuesday, September 15, 2015 God deemed that his mission was completed. Rod ended his multi-year battle with prostate cancer and God called him into Glory and "away from the evil to come" (Is. 57:1).
