Robert Arthur D'Angio Sr.

January 22, 1922 — January 9, 2017

ROBERT A. D'ANGIO, SR. It is with great sadness that the D'Angio family announces the sudden passing of Robert A. D'Angio, Sr. on January 9, 2017. Mr. D'Angio was born January 22, 1922, in Brooklyn (Bayridge), N.Y., the youngest of four boys in his family. He proudly served in the Army Air Forces during WWII, and having spent some time at Morrison Field in West Palm Beach, Florida, moved to the area with his first wife, Anne and son in 1947. Attending college on the G.I. Bill, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stetson University. Mr. D'Angio was a long time educator and coach in Palm Beach County. His baseball teams at Forest Hill High School reached the State finals in three of the six years he coached there. He was recently inducted into the Forest Hill Falcons Hall of Fame. Mr. D'Angio is survived by his son, Robert A. D'Angio, Jr. (Kaye) and daughter, Elizabeth A. Mullins, stepson Brett Mauney (Sandy), grandchildren Christine D'Angio (William Horwitz), Phillip D'Angio (Elizabeth), Lisa Bozzone , Cory Mullins (Darian) and Cody Mullins (Angela), six great grandchildren, and nephews, Greg R. D'Angio (Martha) and Jeffrey J. Halle (Donna). He was the leader of a traditional Italian-American family, and he will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but by his many friends, former students and players. Mr. D'Angio taught and/or coached at Conniston Middle School, St. Anne's (Cardinal Newman), Forest Hill High School and finished his career as the first Provost for the north campus of Palm Beach Community College. He was an avid NY Yankees fan and, unfortunately, a Miami Dolphins fan. He was passionate about politics, American history, psychology and sports, all with the same fervor. He relished debating anyone who would take him on regarding these subjects, and, in his mind, he never lost an argument. Mr. D'Angio enjoyed Italian cooking and never forgot his strong Italian upbringing. He loved dining with family and friends. As his 95th birthday approached, his only wish was to have dinner with his immediate family. Although planned, he did not live long enough to celebrate that birthday. However, we invite all of his family, friends, former students and players to celebrate January 22, 2017, in his honor. Happy 95th Dad! A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 15, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a memorial service beginning at 2:00PM at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mr. D'Angio's favorite charitable organization: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
