Robert W. Craig was born in 1938 in Detroit, MI to Olivia and Earl Craig. He lived in East Hartford, CT for 16 years before moving to North Miami Beach in the 50's where he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves 2nd 155th gun battalion at the age of 16. He continued his service in the Corps with the elite seagoing marines on board the U.S.S Lake Champlain CVA, CVS 39. Bob also served with the US Army Reserves 76th division. He returned to Connecticut where he married his grammar school sweetheart, Sylvia Sawyer, his wife of over 50 years. He raised two sons, Robert Jr. and Richard Earl, where they resided in Hebron, CT. For 20 years, Bob served the town of Hebron as he was elected to 2 terms on the Board of Selectmen, and 18 years as Town Constable. He also was president of the London Park Water Association for 12 years, committee chairman of the Cub Scouts, member of the Hebron Drug Advisory Committee, chairman of the Recreation Committee, president of the Flying Colts Parachute Club and was instrumental in opening Ellington Airport as a sport parachute center for the state of CT. Bob enjoyed boating and scuba diving and played tenor drum as a member of the United States Coast Guard pipe band at Arlington National Cemetery and with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard in Washington, DC. He is predeceased by his wife, Sylvia and his son, Richard. He is survived by his son Robert; daughter-in-law, Stephanie; grandsons, Clayton and Tyler Craig; several nieces; and long time partner, Linda Martorello. Services will be held at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach. A graveside service with military honors will be held at South Florida National Cemetery.
