Rita Gardner Vance, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at the age of 100.

Born on July 12, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA, Rita later made her home in West Palm Beach, FL, after relocating in 1969, where she built a life centered around family, faith, and community. She dedicated over 20 years of service to Publix Super Markets, where she was known for her strong work ethic and warm spirit.

Rita had a deep love for sports and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She also enjoyed NASCAR racing and especially cheered on her favorite driver, Jimmie Johnson.

Above all, Rita cherished time spent with her family and friends. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and lasting memories. A devoted Catholic, her faith was a guiding force throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Helen (Bartley) Gardner; her brothers, Mike, Ed, Bill, Jerry, and Jim; and her sisters, Bernie Smith and Helen Onodi; her son-in-law, Jeff Cullen.

Rita is lovingly remembered by her sister, Catherine Gardner; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Gardner; her children, Rick Vance (Susan), Janice Elkins (Louie), Sandi Gregson (Bud), and Shari Cullen; as well as her 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach, FL.

Rita’s legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family will live on in all who knew her.
