Richard Andrew Slater Sr., 78, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010. Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Walter E. Slater and Louise (Sill) Adams. He grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida from the time he was 18 months old. After high school, he attended the University of Florida until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Austria. Upon returning, Richard continued his education at U.F. graduating with a degree in building construction and began his own construction company, Richard A. Slater Construction Company. In 1962, he and his family moved to Freeport, Bahamas and live there for many years. The construction company still runs today as Slater and Sons General Contractors Inc. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, boating, and family activities. Richard's memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Merrie Anne (Hewitt) Slater; children, Richard Andrew Slater Jr., Merrie Anne (Kenneth) Boundy and Robert Clark (Tami) Slater; brother, James Dea (Paula) Adams; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Richard will be laid to rest with Army Honors at the South Florida National Cemetery. Day and time to be announced.
