Richard H. Prant

Richard “Dick” H. Prant Richard H. Prant (1936-2022) passed away in Wellington, FL on October 25th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones and long time friend Ken Stuhr. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Chris in 2016. Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Heather and his daughters, Nancy and Sarah. He will be greatly missed by all his grandchildren; Charlie Hooker, Gray Prant, Heather Hooker Boggio, Devin Prant, Griffen Prant, Carlton Prant, Sophia Ercolano and Tony Ercolano; his two brothers, Donald and Gerard; as well as the countless friends he considered family. He grew up in Bergen County, NJ and was a long time resident and community leader in Franklin Lakes. In 2005, he moved his Millbrook Farm and family to Flemington, NJ where he spent the summer months meticulously caring for his beautiful property, mowing fields and building jumps. Winter months were spent in Wellington, FL playing tennis, watching his family participate in equestrian events from polo to show jumping, and dining with friends. He was a self-made man, a hardworking entrepreneur, and fiercely loving father and friend. He was passionate about being a good steward of all the blessings God gave him, the land, the animals, and the people. Some of the things that brought him the most joy in life were his annual fishing adventures, being an enthusiastic spectator of his many ponies and horses over the years, and an ardent supporter of those who rode them. He relished in good company and delicious food. Better known as “Grumpy”, you could always count on him being ringside in his folding chair or golf cart, wearing a plaid shirt and asking “where to” for lunch. He worked tirelessly and without complaint to give his family everything they could want. He was a tough, competitive, and driven business man in his early years who mellowed over time into being known as “Papa Bear.” He was always the first on the job site or the horse show grounds, fastidious about lists and worried about every little detail for the day, always eager to drive the machinery or lunge the wild pony himself. He started his career as Millbrook Landscape, which with hard work evolved into owning and developing property through his realty company. In his Ramsay High School yearbook he hoped to some day own a gas station, but he far exceeded his own dreams by owning self storages, warehouses, office buildings, and farms. He lived his life according to the mantra: “To whom much is given, much is expected.” He formally supported many church and community organizations, but was also known for his generosity and kindness to any family or friends who needed it. He truly enjoyed helping people; his background as a lifeguard helped him literally jump in to save people from the likes of bears and leopards. “Let me take you to dinner” was his way to show appreciation through a good meal and quality time; it didn’t matter who you were or what you did, his favorite barista to his favorite Senator. His family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the dedicated caregivers, doctors, and staff at Millbrook Farm for their loving care of Grumpy. The family will hold a small memorial gathering at a later time.
