Richard (Sonny) Ridley, 88 - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away peacefully at home in Loxahatchee, FL on Monday, July 10, 2023. Sonny was born to Albert and Jessie Mae Ridley in Rossville, GA on June 21, 1935. He grew up with 3 siblings and when their mother passed at a very young age, he left school to help provide for the family. In 1961, Sonny made a decision to enlist in the United States Army. He was a true patriot that served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964. He then started his 30+ year career as a construction superintendent working across the U.S., Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. After retiring, he pursued a life-long dream to start his own transport company. He transported vehicles across the country that he loved until he retired officially in 2004. Through the years, Sonny was an avid fisherman enjoying time on his boat just as long as it did not interfere with an even more beloved hobby of watching a Nascar race. He could always be found in his chair on race day cheering on his drivers. Sonny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice; children Patricia, Richard Jr., Crystal, Don, and Clay; Grandchildren Billy, Callie, Colton, Dalton, Cassie, Shay, Makayla, Mason, and Rhys. A gathering to celebrate his wonderful life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 2-5 p.m., at the family's residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
