Richard Clarence "Dick" Edwards October 26, 1933 – August 8, 2023 Dick was born on October 26, 1933 in Bronx, New York to Phillip and Lucille (Nee: Winter) Edwards. He grew up in Fort Lee, New Jersey and graduated from Fort Lee High School in 1951. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 based out of Patuxent River, Maryland. Dick met his future wife, Barbara, just as he entered the Navy. Dick married Barbara Ward of Leonia, New Jersey, on April 14, 1956. They raised their two children, Glenn and Jeanine, in Westwood, New Jersey. Dick owned a car wash and gas station in the 1960s, and was a traveling salesman in the 1970s. During this time, Dick earned his associates degree in business from Rutgers University. In the 1980s, the family moved to Fishers Island, New York. Dick's father was born there in 1900 and members of his family still live there today. While on Fishers Island, Dick worked for the Fishers Island Electric Company while also serving as a volunteer fire fighter for the Fishers Island Fire Department. He also served on the Board of Education of the Fishers Island Schools. He ran two successful restaurants, the Sunrise Deck and the Sunset Deck. He excelled at photography and gardening. Dick was able to fix "anything but a broken heart." In 1999, Dick retired and he and Barbara moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he lived the rest of his life. He loved working at the Breakers West as a golf ranger. He also continued to fish and to hunt. He continued to collect coins and stamps, which he had begun as a child. Most recently Dick served as an inspiration to his friends at the local gym, where he went every morning at 4:30AM. He had many friends and fond memories in his neighborhood of Riverwalk. He will be remembered there as a good friend who was always cheerful and happy to help. Dick is survived by his daughter Jeanine Kelly of Concord, Vermont, and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dick was predeceased by his son Glenn and his wife Barbara. Please remember Dick as a hard worker with a big smile who was loved by all who knew him. A memorial service for Dick will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, August 13th, 2023, at Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach Florida, 33411.
