Randy Swartout

January 7, 1970 — July 19, 2024

Randy Scott Swartout was born on January 7, 1970, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he died on July 19, 2024, in Lake Worth, Florida. He lived at 7368 Ashley Shores Circle, Lake Worth, Florida, and prior to that, he lived with his girlfriend, Sally Wolpert, for twenty years in Lantana, Florida. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Thomas and Daniel Swartout. He is survived by his parents, Judith and Ronald Swartout, along with his Uncle Rich and Aunt Mary Stein, Uncle Terry and Aunt Cherrie Gorka, and nine cousins; two nephews, Zachary Swartout and Charles Swartout; and two nieces , Ashlee (Aavery) Frye and Lyette Swartout; plus, two great nephews, Ayden and Asher Frye and one great niece, Adalynn Frye. As a young person, Randy enjoyed playing sports. He played many seasons of Wildcat Baseball in Fort Wayne, Indiana, along with his two brothers, Tom and Dan. He became quite proficient, even to the point of instructing younger players. He loved being awarded trophies for his many wins to place on his trophy shelf in his room. He also participated in BMX Racing, again, along with his two brothers. In addition, he played soccer, not his favorite sport, in Miami, after the family moved there in 1983. His brother, Tom's team was always winning, but much to Randy's dismay, his team rarely won a game. Bowling in a league at an early age instigated a love of bowling for Randy; he was on bowling leagues into his adult years, even. It began with the neighbor across the street who was almost a professional bowler. Ellen showed him how to bowl. and that started Randy on his love of the game. As a teenager in Miami, it was discovered that Randy had a problem with his thyroid. Usually, he was the tallest student in his class when younger, but as he approached twelve years old, he was the shortest, and he sometimes heard the term, "Hobbit," as a nickname. Upon taking him to an endocrinologist, it came to light that his thyroid had been destroyed. His pituitary gland had enlarged, trying to stimulate the thyroid and encroaching upon his optic nerve. He could have gone blind! Miraculously, upon taking Synthroid, his thyroid gland was triggered to allow him to grow a half foot in one year. He then caught up in height with his peers. This incident was written up in a medical journal, the endocrinologist reported. Randy also experienced a lot of medical problems starting in his teenage years and continued throughout his life. Sometimes he had to be hospitalized for his condition. However, he was a very good patient, always following the doctors' orders, no matter what, especially with all medications. He managed to carry on a regular lifestyle that he wanted to live. Many admired his perseverance and congenial personality, no matter what might be going on, shortly after a hospital stay. His condition dictated a very close monitoring of doctors' orders and medications, not an easy way of life. Randy held various jobs throughout his lifetime. He loved driving, so, he initially worked as a car valet after moving here from Miami. Later, he became a delivery person from delivering pizzas to tuxedos. However, for a period of time, he was hired by the National Wildlife Federation in the everglades. Prior to that he was hired by Jack Nicklaus as a landscape assistant. Friends were important to him, especially his neighbors, in Lantana, Florida, while living with Sally. They loved the Dolphins and, on occasion, they would go to a Dolphin game in Miami. Just lately, he enjoyed watching the Dolphin games with one of the same close friends and his family, who happened to move closer. Sally always supplied Randy throughout the years with much Dolphin gear and shirts and jerseys. He always donned a jersey on game day to join his friends to watch the game, one of his favorite joys. Other amusements included various things: watching movies, going to garage sales, visiting Dairy Queen, and going to the beach every Friday evening with a sandwich, usually Arby's. Popcorn was his favorite go-to, especially movie theater popcorn; therefore, Sally bought him a standup movie-type popcorn popper. He loved Netflix and other productions on television and in the movie theaters, also. But, best of all, Randy loved spending time with Sally and Blackie, their aging cat or going to the Hard Rock Casino with Sally. Randy was a gentle soul who loved being with the ones he loved. Nothing pleased him more than being with them. We know he is with the Lord now, and we want his loving spirit to be with us always. May he rest in peace, dear Randy, and may the perpetual light shine upon him.
