Piumi Sachindra Jayasinghe

July 1, 1985 — March 23, 2021

Piumi Sachindra Jayasinghe was born on July 1, 1985 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to her loving parents Malitha and Vinoda (Raja) Jayasinghe. Piumi lived in Sri Lanka until her family moved to Dhakka, Bangladesh when she was 6 years old; she then lived in Dhakka until she was 12 years old. As a young girl, Piumi was active and loved to play, have fun with her friends and family, and loved spending quality time with both of her grandmothers. While in Bangladesh, Piumi started to feel ill which prompted the family moved to Florida, where Piumi received treatment at Shriners Hospital in Tampa. This did not slow her down. While she lived in western Palm Beach County, she was able to attend Crestwood Middle School, Western Pines Middle School, and Wellington High School. Growing up, she loved listening to the Backstreet Boys, was always surrounded by friends, and had beautiful long, curly black hair. Piumi was an animal lover, and was particularly fond of Boston Terriers, especially her dogs Suvi and Chuti. In the recent years, Piumi loved spending time with her parents and her dog, Chuti, and enjoyed eating delicious food, especially anything her doting aunt made. Despite her health, she always had a bright smile on her face, an encouraging word to whomever visited, and her doctors and nurses who worked tirelessly to provide excellent care for her always admired her strong spirit and will to continue pushing. Piumi lost her long battle with Giant Axonal Neuropathy on Tuesday morning, March 23, 2021 around 2:30 am. Piumi is survived by her parents, Vinoda and Malitha Jayasinghe, her paternal grandmother, Rohini Jayasinghe, her maternal grandmother Eva Gunasekera, four aunts, four uncles, and five cousins. May her memory be a blessing to everyone lucky enough to have known her, and may we keep her goodness alive by remembering her and her spirit and keeping her in our hearts.
