Phillis (Phillie) was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on a house boat along the Ohio River in 1938 after the floods of 1937. Her father (Grandpa Mack) had a large motor boat and was licensed to help with any emergencies on the river. Phillie has an older sister, Mary, a younger sister Alberta (Woodie) and an older brother Mackie (she was second to the youngest in the family). After her youngest sister (Woodie) was born, the family moved to Jeffersonville, Indiana, where Phillie went to grade school, middle school and a year of High school. After that she graduated from Henryville High School. Later, after a wide variety of jobs, Phillie enrolled and took classes to teach special needs adults which allowed her to work many years in the special needs field. After many years working at the Palm Beach Habilitation Center, Phillie retired and began to travel more often. In her younger years she had traveled the United States with her parents and siblings. Sometime in the mid 1960's Phillie spent the Christmas holidays in Colombia, South America, with a friend and her family and later started her cruising adventures. One of those was going through the Panama Canal. In 1958 she married local boy Carlton Sanders and the two moved to Florida a few years later. Phillie and Carlton never had children and were married for ten years before they divorced. They had always remained good friends and spoke frequently.. Things Phillie loved: - Spending time in Fort Myers at her timeshares - Hosting Thanksgiving at home with her nieces, nephews and friends - Sitting at her dining room table watching the birds and squirrels outside, she would spend hours looking out the window enjoying them - Loved taking care her cats throughout the years - Keeping in contact with old friends - Going to high school reunions - Taking Elizabeth out to eat after school - Speaking to her family every day
