Phil absolutely loved the water, fishing, dancing, and making people laugh by the goofy things that he did but most of all, he deeply loved his wife, Linda and his son, Kyle. Phil thoroughly enjoyed watching Kyle grow up to be the man that he is now. Phil spent countless hours with Kyle always instilling the values of life and teaching him to have respect for himself as well as for others. Phil always preached to Kyle just how short life can be and to enjoy every moment of it. That's exactly what Phil did. He sailed through his short life knowing that each day was a true blessing and that there was never a guarantee. Phil spent hundreds if not thousands of hours filming Kyle's football, soccer, and basketball games and was such a proud dad. He always had a huge smile on his face whenever he saw Kyle and always cherished every single moment they had together. Linda was without a doubt the love of his life. Phil very much loved and respected his second family, the Johnson-Davis family. He cherished each and every person at his work place and especially his relationship with his "brother" Leonard. Leonard was Phil's rock at work and his very best friend. Phil is survived by his wife, Linda Jean Cartales, and his son, Kyle Phillip Cartales, his sister and brother-in-law, Kelly Cartales-Johnson and Kirk Johnson of Maryland, his brother and sister-in-law, Michael Cartales and Jewell Cartales of Cape Coral, his brother and sister-in-law, Harry Cartales and Theresa Cartales of West Palm Beach, his mother, Francine Gawlista-Cartales of West Palm Beach, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brian Heller and Lori Heller of The Villages, his nephews and nieces, Kaars Johnson of Maryland, Kaede Johnson of Maryland, Kinsey Johnson of Maryland, Jacob Cartales of West Palm Beach, Julia Cartales of West Palm Beach, Joshua Cartales of West Palm Beach, Cheyanne Cartales of Cape Coral, Miquela Cartales of Cape Coral, April Curington of Oklahoma, and Brandon Berning of Bonita Springs. Phil is also survived by his extended family, Diana Kaczmarek of San Antonio, Dave Heller and Lisa Heller of St. Paul, Minnesota, Gary Heller and Kathy Heller of New Berlin, WI, Katrina Heller of Palm Beach Gardens, Angela Heller of New Berlin, WI, and Rebecca and Brian Kisley of Milwaukee, WI, as well as Alan Silva, Michael Silva, and Sean Silva of San Antonio. Finally, Phil had a further extended family, Douglas Klubnik and Donna Klubnik of Royal Palm Beach, Melanie Klubnik of Royal Palm Beach, as well as Todd Klubnik of Royal Palm Beach. Phil was predeceased by his loving father, Phil Cartales, Sr. and Andrew Scott Johnson. In lieu of flowers, Phil would have wanted any donations to go to the Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, c/o NUCA of FL, 113 E. College Avenue, Tallahassee, FL 32301. A viewing will be held from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Palms West Funeral Home with a service beginning at 7:30 PM.
