Paula Karen Szabo

Paula Szabo, 66 passed away Friday the 13th of September 2019 (mom had a sense of humor like that -Friday the 13th). She was born in Champaign, IL `to Ted Estes and Gertrude Caron. Paula was married for 48 years to her beloved Robert (Bob) Szabo and was the proudest mom and biggest "cheerleader" to Craig Szabo and Jennifer (Szabo) Berthiaume; son-in-law Billy Berthiaume). She is survived by her grandchildren that she loved most dearly and would do anything for: Haley (Haley Girl) Berthiaume, Brooke (Brookey Bear) Berthiaume, Abby (Bug) Szabo, Jakob (Jakers) Szabo & Donovan Pinto. To her grandkids, she often sang "You are My Sunshine" and "You are my Special Angel". After retiring from the banking industry, Paula and Bob were living the dream, travelling the country in their RV visiting 40 states. On their journeys, they always stopped to visit family. To Paula, family was everything – from special family trips and holiday gatherings where beautiful memories were made, to attending sporting games for her grandkids, to cousin reunions. She was a loyal friend and an amazing listener. Paula passed her love of music on to her children and grandchildren and heard some of her most favorite songs (including Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Can't Help Falling in Love) right until she met God. We cried endlessly when you died, but promise to not let the tears mar the smiles you've given us when you were alive. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that took our breath away" – for Paula, fortunately, we had LOTS of those moments. A celebration of life will be held at Palm's West Funeral Home September 20th with visitation from 3pm-4pm and the celebration of her life from 4pm-5pm. It will indeed be a celebration as 9/20 is also Paula's brother's (Ted) birthday. Paula and Ted are now together in heaven with their parents. Fly the "W".
