Patricia M. Sierk

Patricia Marie Sierk (Joyce), age 84, of Royal Palm Beach, passed away peacefully at her home April 10, 2013, surrounded by her family. Pat was born October 22, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Marie (Frayne) Joyce. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Justine Joyce McVicker in 1995 and just in the past month by her brother, Kevin John Joyce. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Raymond Sierk; son, Bill Sierk; daughters, Lorraine O'Connell (husband Tom), Nancy Lopes (husband Tony), Carolyn Hasan (husband Malik); and 9 grandchildren, Kelly O'Connell, Justin O'Connell, Kristen Lopes, Adrianne Lopes, Dylan Sierk, Julia Hasan, Tyler Hasan, Mackenzy Hasan, and Drew Hasan. A lifetime learner and hard worker Pat proudly graduated from St John's University earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration while working full time as a long distance telephone operator. She honorably took on her role as a full time mother, and in the early 1970's returned to college and earned a second degree in Computer Science while working as a computer programmer at Western Union Telegraph Company in New Jersey. Retiring from Western Union and moving to Florida in 1985, she began a second career at the Palm Beach County Clerk's office retiring at the age of 77; all while her passion of learning compelled her to continue taking college courses to expand her knowledge. Pat greatly enjoyed spending time with her family; sharing her love, compassion, and wisdom. Her strong will to succeed, admirable work ethic, and exceptionally positive attitude served her through the years, and she continued to apply these strengths throughout her battle with cancer. Her loving memory will remain in our hearts forever. The family will receive guests on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Palms West Funeral Home, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
