Oreste “Ernie” DiLeonardo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, pioneer, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on April 1, 1931, Ernie lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his faith, his work, and the sport he helped bring to an entire community.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 71 years, Angela, with whom he shared a remarkable love story. Their marriage was a daily choice, a quiet and steady commitment that endured through every season of life. Together, they built a family rooted in loyalty, warmth, and unwavering support. He is also survived by his daughter and sons, Luciano and Joseph, and by his grandchildren, Richy, Christopher, and Daniel, all of whom carry forward his strength, humor, and generous spirit. His two beloved dogs, Ruby and Sophie, will miss him dearly.
Born in Abruzzo Italy, Ernie moved to the United States in 1947 at a young age, embracing the opportunities and responsibilities of his new home. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, demonstrating the same courage and dedication that would define every chapter of his life.
After his service, Ernie built a long and respected career in construction as a masonry bricklayer. His craftsmanship can still be seen in some of the region’s most important projects, including the hospital in Palm Beach Gardens—a testament to his skill, precision, and pride in his work.
Yet Ernie’s impact extended far beyond his profession. His passion for soccer shaped the athletic landscape of Palm Beach County. In the early days, when local soccer was nearly nonexistent, Ernie would travel to Miami to play, often driving players back and forth so they could compete in Palm Beach. His vision and persistence helped establish the sport in the county, and today, the Palm Beach Adult Soccer League honors his legacy with the “DiLeonardo Cup,” a tournament dedicated to the man who helped make it all possible. Ernie played alongside some of the greatest players in the world—including the legendary Pelé—yet he remained humble, grounded, and grateful for every moment on the field.
Faith was another cornerstone of Ernie’s life. He served his church with a full heart, never passing judgment, always offering kindness, and living each day with quiet integrity. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
Ernie’s life was rich with purpose, love, and service. He dedicated himself fully—to his family, to soccer, to his faith, and to every task he took on. His absence leaves a profound emptiness in the world, a missing piece that cannot be replaced. But his spirit remains with us—steady, guiding, and full of love—reminding us to choose one another, to serve with humility, and to live with passion and heart.
May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy continue to shine through the countless lives he touched.
