He was born on September 13, 1938 in Dragasia, Greece, to Kosma and Agoro Gakopoulos. He married the love of his life, Vasiliki Papadimitroulis of Damaskinia, Greece, on June 22, 1958. He proudly served in the Greek Army and was stationed in Germany. He later moved to America in 1969 to begin a new life. He settled in Norwalk, CT and through hard work, dedication, courage, and perseverance, he built a life to be proud of. He is and will forever be deeply missed by his daughters, Rina Giottas and her husband Dimitri of Norwalk, CT, Roula Karavitis and her husband Dino of Wellington, FL, and Nitsa Papadopoulos and her husband George of Eleftheroupoli, Greece. He loved his five grandchildren more than anything in the world; Stergios Giottas, Nikolaos Giottas and his wife Gabriella, James Karavitis, Alyssa Karavitis, and Dimitri Papadopoulos. He was blessed with two beautiful and precious great-grandsons which he adored deeply; Dimitri and Michalis Giottas. He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Vasiliki, his parents, Kosmas and Agoro Gakopoulos, his in-laws, Kostantinos and Androniki Papadimitroulis, and older brother, Vasilios Gakopoulos. He is survived by his younger brother, Antonios and his wife Kaiti from Kastoria, Greece, a sister in-law, Vasiliki Gakopoulos of Niantic, CT, a brother-in law Alekos Papadimitroulis and his wife Sophia from Greece, a sister-in law, Maria Giorgiopoulos and her husband Konstantinos also from Greece as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Niko was a master mason and owner of G&M Mason Contractors in Norwalk, CT. He took great pride in creating works of "art" in the many houses and buildings he touched. While living in Norwalk, you would often find him at Calf Pasture Beach fishing from the pier while enjoying story telling with his many fisherman friends. He has lived in Florida for the last 9 years soaking up the warm weather and sunshine, riding around the neighborhood on his scooter, visiting theme parks, and Saturday night dinners out. He cherished the time he spent with the family puppies and their love and kisses always brought a smile to his face. He was a proud parishioner of St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in West Palm Beach and was devoted to his religion and faith. He followed the way of God and looked to Him for guidance and strength. He will forever be with us in our hearts, memories, and prayers.
