Nicholas Patrick DeLapi, affectionately known as NickyD, passed away on October 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family and favorite buddy, Lil Bear, while Frank Sinatra serenaded him into eternity. He had a fun-loving spirit; always smiling, joking and singing. Born on December 4, 1947 to Pat and Jean DeLapi, Nick grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent his free time singing on the corner under the streetlights with his friends. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1966 and dreamed of becoming a professional singer. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Marian, and resided in Valley Stream, NY, where they began to build a life and family. He worked as a plumber for Coppola Plumbing and remodeled their house on Locust Street. In 1988, they settled in Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Nick began working for Palm Beach County Water Utilities. He later joined the AAA family as a dispatcher known as "Nick at Nite", and retired after 25 years as a field business manager. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of the Apostles parish, assisting the religious education program, volunteering at the Annual Festival, singing in the choir, serving in the Knights of Columbus and later joining the maintenance staff. In his retirement years, he proudly served as a Board member of his homeowner's association and as a sergeant with PBCSO Citizen Observer Patrol (C.O.P.) at Cypress Lakes. Nick's three children, David, Dana and Lisa were his proudest accomplishment in life. He always strived to make them laugh by making up words to songs, doing the voice of Dumb Nick the Snake, and bringing levity to daily life. He could never resist a joke. But most of all, he shared his love of music with his family, filling their lives with songs by his musical heroes such as Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and the Temptations. His passion for singing and entertaining was legendary. If there was a microphone, NickyD was singing. Throughout his life, he sang at the weddings, birthdays and parties of his family and friends. He even competed in the cruise ship talent show, Voice of the Ocean. Besides music, Nick loved traveling the world with his wife. He loved karaoke. He loved the Dodgers. And, boy, did he love his espresso martinis! Nick will be incredibly missed by his family, including his beautiful wife of 50 years, Marian, his son David, daughters Dana and Lisa, daughter-in-law LeeAnn, granddaughter Nicolette, brother Billy, in-laws Rosann (Bob), Joe and Meredith, (Ernie) Kathleen, Donna and Bill, and his uncle Ernie and aunt Helene. He also leaves behind cherished cousins and a crew of nieces and nephews (who were often his backup singers and groupies!). He will be mourned by his many, many devoted friends, whom he also considered his family. Nick loved us all. His memory and voice will live on forever in our hearts. Services will be held at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach, FL on Monday, November 4, from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Royal Palm Beach, FL on Tuesday, November 5, at 11 am. ♫ There will come a day when youth will pass away What will they say about me?
