McLaughlin (Alexander), Mattie of Bath, Maine, age 95, died Monday, February 21, 2011 at Hospice of Palm Beach County. She was born January 14, 1916 in Brunswick, Maine, the youngest of several children to George Edward Alexander and Mary Ardell (Labbe) Alexander. Mattie wintered in Royal Palm Beach, Florida and spent her summers in Bath, Maine. Mattie graduated from Brunswick High School in 1934. A long time employee of Congress Sportswear, during WWII she temporarily left Congress Sportswear to work at Bath Iron Works. Mattie had a love for golfing. She was a long time member of the Bath Country Club where her name can be seen on the trophy wall for winning numerous golfing tournaments. In 1934, Mattie married Merle Delbert Niles; they divorced in 1947. Mattie married John Joseph McLaughlin in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include one daughter, Beverly (Niles) Brennan of Royal Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Portland, Maine; two granddaughters, Maureen (Brennan) Paul of Ketchikan, Alaska and Patricia (Brennan) Ferran of Ellicott City, Maryland along with their spouses James Paul and Daniel Ferran; three great-grandchildren; Derek Paul, Courtney Paul and Meghan Ferran. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, James Brennan. In respecting Mattie's wish, neither a funeral nor memorial service will be held.
