On Tuesday January 31st heaven gained another angel. Mary Elizabeth Hawes, beautiful wife, daughter, sister, mother, niece, cousin, teacher and friend passed away peacefully at her mother's home in Wellington, Florida after living valiantly for three years with cancer. Mary was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida the daughter of Michael and Denise. She grew up with her brother, Mike and many cousins who were like siblings. Though her time here with us was short, it was very full. In her 36 years, Mary graduated from the University of Florida with a Masters Degree in Education. While living in Gainesville she met the love of her life, Brandt, and after graduating, the two moved back to Mary's hometown. They married on September 8th, 2007 and brought two incredible children into the world, Jude and Riley. Mary worked as a teacher at C.O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School where she made lasting impressions on not only the students she inspired, but the coworkers who became friends that were more like family. Mary was well traveled and always planning her next adventure. And even when it was sparse, Mary spent every ounce of energy she had living life to the fullest. Mary did not "lose" a battle with cancer, as cancer was never able to take her love for life or her hope for tomorrow. Mary is survived by her husband, Brandt Hawes; two children, Jude and Riley; parents, Denise Hernandez (Joe) and Michael Casella; brother, Michael Casella; grandparents, Vincent Casella and Joan Bart; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Don Bart; Grandmother Lala Casella. A memorial service will be held on Thursday February 9th from 6:00-9:00 pm at Palms West Funeral Home in Royal Palm Beach and Funeral services will be held Friday February 10th at 2:30 pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Royal Palm Beach.
