Mark Daniel Rothenburg

August 9, 1955 — June 25, 2025

Mark Daniel Rothenburg, 69, of Wellington, Florida, died from cancer on June 25, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Mark was born on August 9, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, to Jean Beatrice and Joseph Henry Rothenburg. He grew up in the small town of Jordan-Elbridge with ten siblings. Mark was the entertainer of the family. He was a storyteller and made his brothers and sisters laugh whenever they were together. Mark was also athletic. As a young man, he was known on the basketball court as "Boogs" due to his fancy footwork. He led the high-school varsity team to the State Championship. After high school, Mark joined the Air Force and used the skills he acquired while serving to become a renowned concrete master. You can find his handy work in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Alachua County. During his working years, Mark not only poured concrete for a paycheck, but also for his friends, neighbors, and family. One day he poured concrete for Pat. They became fast friends, and Pat convinced Mark that "two could live better than one" and Mark discovered that Kim (Pat's daughter) was the one. On September 7, 1996, Mark and Kim married, with the understanding that it was their destiny to love, to live and to begin each new day together and to share their lives forever. Each day they nurtured and grew their relationship to one full of love, understanding, acceptance, and respect. We were blessed with an instant family. I gained a son and Mark gained two daughters: Matthew, Ashley, and Andrea – our three peas in a pod. Together we grew strong bonds. While growing their family, Mark and Kim were blessed with the opportunity to raise Frank. Mark (affectionately known as "Papa") and Frank became inseparable and their love for one another eternal. Papa truly believes Frank is the GOAT and is watching from above to see the great things Frank is sure to accomplish. Mark is survived by his wife, Kimberly Rothenburg; son, Matthew David Rothenburg and (Cynthia Rothenburg, his wife); stepdaughter, Andrea Starkey; grandson, Frank Anthony Collins; siblings, William Rothenburg, Joseph Rothenburg, Christine Thompson, Aimee Peterson, Patrick Rothenburg, Andrew Rothenburg, and John Rothenburg; and his best man and friend, Jeff Steichen. Mark was welcomed into Heaven by his daughter, Erica Rothenburg; stepdaughter, Ashley Starkey; parents, Jean and Joseph Rothenburg; and sister, Maryanne Rothenburg; and brothers, Michael Rothenburg, Matthew Rothenburg and Peter Rothenburg. A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Palms West Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 12:00 p.m.; service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather following the service at the Rothenburg residence, 888 Cosmos Court, Wellington, Florida 33414. A special thank you to Laura Ballard, who selflessly helped me care for Mark for the past several years; to my mom (Cris); my sisters (Christina, Patricia, and Carrie) and Andrea, Matt, and Frank who have supported and helped us; and the Opal Team at Trustbridge Hospice of Palm Beach County who helped guide us through the past couple of months. You are my angels on earth. God bless you. Embrace the moment
