Marjorie Louise Aiken

September 27, 1930 — January 7, 2024

Marjorie Aiken died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was actively preparing to receive visitors ahead of the highly anticipated MLK Day event in Royal Palm Beach, hosted annually by Caribbean Americans for Community Involvement (CAFCI). Marge was genuinely committed to service and was active in CAFCI & other groups for the 20 years she lived in RPB. A nurse by training, she spent the better part of her working life in the New York City hospital system, rising through the ranks to become Senior Administrator for Metropolitan Hospital, overseeing the hospital's 11pm-7am shift. In her spare time, she was an enthusiastic and skillful fisherperson, plying the waters off Long Island and New England with friends and family, on weekends. She loved entertaining, and as the consummate chef, she was driven to titillate the palates of all who visited her home in Laurelton, Queens. Her other favorite pastime was traveling, both touring & cruising. With her close friends Aveline & Elet (& others) and accompanied on various trips by her brother Keith & sister-in-law Audrey and by nieces, nephews & grand-nieces, she visited countries in almost every continent - from Dubai to Norway, Botswana to the Phillipines. She survived an earthquake in Turkey; traversed a glacier in Alaska ; observed the volcanic wonders of Hawaii & Iceland, and went "glamping" in the deserts of Oman. But, Marjorie's real passion was family, hosting them in NY & Florida and visiting them all across the world. Marjorie lived a long and productive life. While she encountered many obstacles, she achieved a successful career through her tenacity, hard work, and determination. Her staff at Metropolitan Hospital in NYC still talk about her forthrightness and advocacy. She will be missed by her many friends; by her loving family; and by those who admire the image she portrayed as a strong, Black woman. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CAFCI, the organization to which Marjorie belonged. CAFCI offers educational supports, such as the Student Assistance Fund, to youth in RPB. https://www.cafcipbc.org/ Here are updated details for the celebration of life & homegoing for our dearest Marjorie Aiken (Aunt Madge).
