Marie Carmen St. Pierre, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2018. Known to her loved ones as Carmen, she was born on May 8, 1937 in Lazile, Haiti; . Carmen, born to Cleoma St. Pierre and Serbenie Hella, was the first born of six children. At the age of twelve years old, she moved to the capital to live with her aunt. At the age of sixteen, she met Elissaint Romulus, who later became her husband when she turned 23 years old. She later gave birth to four children: Jean Mario Romulus, Marie Yolaine Romulus-Jean, Elsie Cadet, and Paul Elie Romulus. During her life in Haiti, she was a homemaker. Her husband later left Haiti for the United States of America in September of 1975 in search of a better life. Seven years later, her children left Haiti to join their dad in the U.S. When her eldest daughter, Marie, gave birth to her first grandchild, she left Haiti for the U.S January 9, 1985. She remained in the U.S., travelling back and forth to Haiti, until she became legally blind in 2013. Marie Carmen St. Pierre is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
