Marie C. Laroche

July 21, 1946 — February 7, 2024

Marie Circe Laroche, née Vincent, was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti on July 21st, 1946, the fourth of six children to André Vincent and Lise Riché. For her preschool education, she attended Carmen Andre School. She then attended Les Sœurs du Carénage and Saint Joseph de Cluny to complete her elementary education. She went on to complete her secondary education at College Regina Assumpta. In 1967, she emigrated to the United States to join her mother and siblings in America. Only a few months later, she traveled to Fribourg, Switzerland in the Fall to begin her nursing education at the Ecole des Infirmières de Fribourg. After graduation in October of 1971, she returned to the United States where she married Arix Laroche on December 18th of the same year. Arix and Marie later welcomed three children: Alain Laroche in 1974, Nancy Gold born in 1978, and Betsy Laroche Chibbaro in 1980. After passing the New York State Nursing Boards in 1972, she went on to work for Saint Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, NY as a Registered Nurse. She continued to work there for 32 years, until the hospital's closure in 2004. She spent a short time at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY before moving to Florida in June of 2006. She concluded her nursing career as a primary school nurse in the Palm Beach County School District before fully retiring from the profession in 2008. Post-retirement, she spent her days unabashedly unbeholden to the clock. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, including destinations including the Panama Canal, Alaska, Greece, Jamaica, Canada, Italy, Costa Rica, and several times back to Switzerland to visit her nursing school friends. In December of 2023, Marie and Arix celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in New Orleans, LA with their daughter Nancy and her family. The birth of her grandchildren was the joy of her life. She welcomed her first grandchild, John Arix Chibbaro in 2012, her only granddaughter, Hazel Rose Chibbaro in 2015, and her youngest grandson, Garrison Alex Gold in 2019. In her final years, Marie enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, and showing them how to garden, read, paint, make smoothies, and feed the ducks (Julia, Fred, Bob, Princess, and Redeye, as named by Hazel). Among her last words to Arix were "Don't forget to give the ducks corn." She passed away on February 7th at 12:01 AM at Wellington Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
