Lorraine Weber Schweers

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine “Karla” Weber Schweers, age 79, of Wellington, Florida, on August 5, 2026. Born on June 2, 1947, in Manhattan, New York, Karla was the beloved daughter of Francis Joseph Weber and Lillian Custodio.

Karla lived a life filled with family, friendship, creativity, faith, adventure, and a deep commitment to caring for others.

Karla was a beloved registered nurse and dedicated nursing instructor whose career was devoted to caring for and teaching others. She graduated from Port Jefferson High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Barry University. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse at Baptist Hospital, where she served for many years with compassion and skill before transitioning into education. She later taught in the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Miami Lakes Educational Center. She loved her students deeply and took great pride in their success. One of her proudest accomplishments was retiring from the Miami-Dade County Public School System.

Karla spent much of her childhood living in Grand Bahama Island, Rocky Point, New York, Key West, and Curaçao in the Dutch West Indies. These experiences helped shape her lifelong love of the ocean, travel, and adventure. She later raised her daughters in Miami, where she built a life surrounded by wonderful friends. Throughout the years, she formed deep and lasting friendships and remained close to many of those friends throughout her life. She was generous, thoughtful, deeply loyal, and cherished the people who became part of her life.

Karla found joy and connection through her community. Her faith was important to her, and she enjoyed attending Community of Hope. She also enjoyed being active and was a member of the Don Patrol running club in Miami Lakes, where she shared her love of running and friendship with others. She had a special love for doo-wop music and enjoyed the songs and sounds that brought back cherished memories from her younger years.

Karla was also a gifted and passionate artist. She especially loved watercolor painting and creating portraits of her family. She dedicated an entire room in her home to her art, creating a special space where her creativity could flourish. Her paintings became treasured keepsakes for the people she loved.

Karla was the devoted mother of Tara Ramos and Karin Gregg and a loving grandmother to John Dummett, Jacob Ramos, and Carter Gregg. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Kevin Lupo. She is also survived by her beloved maternal aunt, Rosie Custodio, who remained an important part of her life and family.

Among the people who held a particularly special place in Karla’s heart was her son-in-law and best friend, Ernest Ramos. Their relationship grew far beyond that of in-laws; the last few years they shared a genuine friendship, laughter, and a special bond that Karla treasured deeply.

Above all else, Karla treasured her family. She never missed a birthday or holiday and believed that some of life’s greatest gifts were the moments spent together. She made it a priority to bring her family together and create memories they would carry with them forever.

Some of the family’s most cherished memories include renting a boat with her daughter and grandsons and swimming with manatees, spending long days at the beach, traveling to New York to bring Aunt Gigi’s ashes to the family plot, and enjoying special spa days with her daughters. One of her greatest joys was spending time creating art with her youngest grandson, Carter. Those quiet, creative moments together reflected the special bond they shared and will remain treasured memories for the family.

Karla’s warmth, creativity, generosity, faith, and adventurous spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her greatest gift was the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together and create lasting traditions and memories.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her love, laughter, faith, creativity, and legacy will live on in the hearts of her daughters, grandchildren, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
