Lilla Edwards

Lilla Edwards, the daughter of Daniel Grant andVestina Egberta Grant, was born on May 17, 1932, in St Catherine, Jamaica. She was raised and educated in St. Catherine. She married the late Raphael Edwards. Known to most of us as Lilla, Auntie Deary, Ms. Deary, Shorts or Muma. She lived a life of kindness and generosity. In the '50s she went to England along with Raphael to pursue a better life. On the death of her mother, she returned to Jamaica at the end of the '60s. She would later follow her sister Edna and cousin lta to New Jersey in the '70s. It was there that larger familial bond was formed led by these three great women who worked and successfully nurtured their respective children and each other's children. T his created an interconnected family foundation that remains intact. Upon her retirement from AT&T, she moved to Royal Palm Beach where, being unable to keep still, she would again work, this time as part of the residence staff in the home of Mrs. Lesly Smith. Lilla remained to her last days a mother, aunt, adopted mom and friend to all who knew her. At the time her death on May 28th she was at peace and surrounded by love. She is survived by her children: Merle McDonald, Vasse Edwards and Troid Edwards; her brother: Raphael Grant; her sisters: Beryl Grant-Bryan, Monica Grant; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Lilla Edwards was kind and filled with joy. She was always ready to cook you a meal, offer a remedy for some ailment or provide some advice. She lived a full, long life and will be greatly missed. Please join her family in celebrating the joy that was Lilla Edwards. Hold that joy close to your heart and remember her for the wisdom, kindness and laughter that she brought us all. It was her hope for all to find peace, joy and love as we go forward.
