Leighton Carl Augustus Shirley

Leighton Carl Augustus Shirley, "Seco" or "Leights", 76 yrs, passed away on Monday June 20, 2022 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was born the eldest of three children, on October 16, 1945 in St. Andrew, Jamaica to Vassel and Maisie Shirley. Leighton is survived by his loving wife Dawn of 49 years, children: Kamala, Gillian, Daniel, Leiton & Nikel, grandchildren: Kylie, Liam, Matthew, Terique, Somaya, and Krishtian, sister: Dawn, brother: Trevor, son-in-law: Brian, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Leighton was a people person, family oriented, and loved having a good time. He enjoyed singing and listening to his favorite artists Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Alton Ellis. He also loved cooking his "Jamaican" version of Chinese chop suey, baking Christmas hams, and making the most delicious pizza from scratch. He had an infectious laughter and a warm smile and was adored by his grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Leighton's love for mechanics started at an early age fixing cars and just about anything with his hands, even building a go-kart and a tricycle for his grandchildren. He always expressed his desire to pursue aeronautical engineering and his dream was realized after he completed his degree at the Academy of Aeronautics in New York. This led him to having a long career as an Aeronautical Engineer at Air Jamaica for almost 40 years. Our time with you was so precious and our memories of you will continue to live in our hearts forever. Thanksgiving Service will be held at the United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches, 900 Brandywine Rd, West Palm Beach, FL 33409 on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
