Larry Douglas, 76, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, passed away November 4, 2013. He was born May 15, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to former Chief of Police Vear Douglas and Lorraine Douglas. He spent 43 years in Des Moines before moving to Florida. He attended Lincoln High School where he enjoyed being a member of the baseball, basketball and track teams. Larry worked 21 years for the Rock Island Railroad where he was a railroad engineer until it closed in 1980. Larry loved to play golf and in his circle of golf friends was known as "The Rainmaker." Larry is survived by his wife Paula of 37 years; five children, sons Scott Douglas of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Kurt Douglas of Bloomsburg, PA, daughters, Tamra (Ron) Bottorff of Valencia, California, Teri Jordan of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Tracy Cavan of Cummings, Iowa. He is also survived by his brothers, Stephen Douglas and Jeffrey (Susan) Douglas of Augusta, Georgia, his sister, Dianne (Bugs) Jones of Amarillo, Texas, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Carol Woltz of Waukee, Iowa and Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Vern and Mary Olson of Johnston, Iowa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, his best friend Bill Falls of Bellerose, New York and his many high school, railroad and golfing friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Palms West Funeral Home and Crematory, 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, Florida 33411. A private service will follow for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
