Juan Arpellada Dumas

Juan Arpellada Dumas Born on February 8th 1936 passed away peacefully with Robert by his side, on January 31st, 2025. Almost 89. Juan was born in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur. From early on Juan sought knowledge. He started schooling in the Philippines. After passing his exams he started work in Grace Christian Hospital in Suragao, del Norte, as a staff nurse. Eventually his talents and knowledge took him in 1963 to Saint Vincent Hospital in Massachusetts under the USA educational exchange. He transferred to New Jersey State Hospital for Psychiatric nursing, until his visa reaches its expiration. Prior to leaving for the Philippines he had a stop in BC Canada in 1965 as a visitor. Upon returning to his home country the Philippines, he landed at the Far Eastern University to finish his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Following his exams he was employed by Grace Christian Hospital in Suragao as staff nurse. Some time goes by and Juan became a United States Citizen on April 22, 1974. Nursing was in great demand especially for such a highly talented nurse. Juan had met his first partner and friend, William H Okkema. Bill a wonderful man. He was an inspiration to Juan to continue schooling and get his Masters and Doctorate in philosophy from New York University. Shortly after Williams passing Juan met Robert. They really hit it off. Their combined generosity and love for all animals and strays exists till this day. Juan and Robert were married on September 1, 2012. They spent many years prior together. We always said " everyday was like Christmas ". Juan Dumas was and always will be remembered as a generous, loving, caring, gentle man. I guess that's what makes a Nurse. Rest in peace.
