Lt. Col., Joseph H. Stowers, USAR, Ret., of Lake Clark Shores, FL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 27, 2011 at the age of 93. Born in Matthews, AL, he was the son of James and Annie Lou (Pugh) Stowers. He was predeceased by his brothers; James, William, and Frederick. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years; Rose Marie (Sheri/Meme)Stowers, son; Joseph Wayne Stowers, daughter; Cynthia Marie Stowers, grandchildren; Kimberly, Jennifer, Stephanie, Brittany, Danielle, Nicole, and Tony, great-grandchildren; Isabella, Andrew, Brandon, Catalina, and Tyler, and his faithful feline companion, Katie. Papa was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In World War II, he served in North Africa and was in the Army for 27 years. One of his special memories during his tour of duty was the privilege of visiting Jerusalem. A visitation will be held at Palms West Funeral Home on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM with a memorial service at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Joe's memory to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, 185 E. Indiantown Rd, #205, Jupiter, FL 33477 and/or Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, WPB, FL 33407.
